Are you aware :: disagreeing <<well>> ignites the development of wisdom?
Let’s be honest, we won’t always agree on everything; it’s healthy to surround ourselves with humans that don’t think like we do*.
Wisdom is our ability to use knowledge and experience to make good decisions … but keep in mind, age doesn’t necessarily correlate with wisdom - there is so much to be learned from all generations.
Every generation has been that pioneering future - fighting for change, taking risks … and challenging the way it has always been.
We can find commonality in this fact - allowing grace for all generations.
So, how is it that we can continue to develop our wisdom - no matter our age?
(1) Reflection
It is so valuable to reflect and examine the reality we have experienced. Also, with this - being self aware and mindful of our potential biases.
(2) Imitation
The original idea that brought you here now - continuing to read :: surrounding ourselves with humans just like us isn’t healthy for our brains. We should hunger for other perspectives, those that are wiser in certain areas - that are open to sharing authentically and leading by example.
(3) Experience
Assess your relationship with failure. Think about what happens when we don’t necessarily get what we want. How is your mind programmed to handle these experiences? Confidence comes from knowing, no matter the outcome - we will be okay.
How do we roll all of the above into building a wise team and sustaining a wise organization?
Fostering psychological safety.
Creating an environment to make wise decisions; being open to challenging the way it has always been done.
Absorb different points of view; everyone’s reality of the experience will not be the same.
Align decisions being made with core values + strategy.
Always conduct retrospects. Absorbing what worked, what didn’t, what is acceptable and what was learned.
Create learning communities, safe spaces where folx can share experiences, reflect together.
Then, align action and apply wisdom from the learnings.
*nerd tip :: our brains literally stop learning + growing if we only surround ourselves with folx that think like we do.
Lastly, I’ll leave you with this sentiment to absorb…
