Are you aware :: it takes 25 minutes?
When we are interrupted by a text, an app alert, a colleague, a kiddo, an email - you get what I’m saying…
Nerd tip :: it takes 25 minutes for our brains to fully get back to where they were prior to the interruption.
Some distractions are welcome or necessary … while others, most times - we have control in quieting the noise*.
Take our phones for example ::
On average, humans are checking phones 2,617 times a day
62% check phones within 15 minutes of waking
50% in the middle of the night
So, in a world of hyperstimulation - how can we protect both our mental energy and well-being?
Pro tip :: don’t worry, it’s not about abstinence - that’s also been proven not to have a positive impact (phew!).
Let’s experiment with a digital diet, if you will … reconsidering our relationship with our phones ::
Establish time limits (20 minutes)
Block intentional time on calendars
Block alerts from populating on home screens
Place away from workstation / while gathering with those we enjoy
Put in another room when time for bed (aka :: not the bed stand)
We are all prone to react when interrupted, but next time - think :: are we reacting with our own priorities in mind?
Let’s try to incorporate healthy digital boundaries … and live more present + lighter!
*Noise is derived from the Latin word nausea - absorb that for a moment!
