Are you aware :: how we can be more effective working from home/remotely?
I recently shared how turning our habits, our routines into ritual can bubble up more joy in our life…
- expanding our capacity for time
- expanding our capacity for change
Keep that in mind - building ritual - as we dive in…
85% of employees favor hybrid work
Research proves it ::
- increases autonomy
- amplifies productivity
- lessens stress and burnout
However, our commutes from back in the day did actually serve us well.
Nerd tip :: our brains love compartmentalizing - focusing on (1) thing at a time (the kiddos | a partner | doggo | work … you get it!) allowing both sides of our prefrontal cortex to work in harmony.
When in the throws of a blended space - all things life, responsibilities - often we’re not taking the transition time our brain thrives on.
Most of us are likely…
- waking
- getting ourselves ready
- +supporting the kiddos <> the doggo <> a partner
Whatever our unique situation is - then going straight for the laptop <> our workspace at home.
So, what’s the solution?
Fake our commute :: shifting from ‘home mode’ to ‘work mode’ and back again, even when it’s the same environment.
Some ideas to accomplish the transition our brain needs ::
- wake … get ourselves ready + whomever may also need our support
- head outside - go for a walk
- a workout
- grab a coffee or tea at our favorite spot

As we’re doing this, review our to-do’s - absorbing what we have planned, mapping out the day - then go back to the laptop/workstation.
Why does this seemingly minor difference make such a beneficial impact?
(1) it honors our brains need for compartmentalization, giving space + time to transition
(2) establishes a flow for buffering and resetting
(3) creates more structure in the AM + PM when ending our work day and transitioning to life
Give it a try, ritualize it - and experience the beneficial impact this minor difference has on both our effectiveness + well-being!
