Are you aware :: not all ways of supporting one another are beneficial?
Stick with me … what I’m about to share - is truly an innocent act of love that we are all guilty of.
When a family member, a partner, a friend, a colleague come to us in moments of heaviness - we typically rally around them with our initial instinct ::
“Whhhhaaat?”
“That’s crazy!”
“Who do they think they are?”
“How outraged are you?”
Nerd tip :: As supportive as we may think these comments are, in actuality they cause humans to re-experience the emotion all over again - creating an even stronger neural pathway for pain and negativity.
How can we better support humans in a more meaningful and healthy way?
Simply put :: actively listen.
This allows us to release the emotion through venting but then it is most helpful to support one another in redirecting.
What can we learn from the scenario?
What lines of support/resources can be engaged to help?
Get curious with each other to find the growth from the gloom.
It’ll have everyone feeling lighter in no time!!
