Are you aware :: a sense of heaviness, a feeling of being stuck occurs during our 30’s to late 50’s?
Nerd tip :: there is data rooted in social science + economics proving between the ages of our 30’s to late 50’s our happiness levels essentially plummet in America.
Not rocket science, but there is research that directly correlates our (high!) stress levels through this phase of life.
During this middle life season, we’re hard on ourselves questioning our purpose, if the progress we’ve made (personally and/or professionally) is where we want to be … also ruminating if we’re stuck - is it too late to pivot.
A little about me :: I strive to live a Benjamin Button lifestyle … those that are close to me are very aware (maybe because I can get real passionate about how to live younger, every day!!:) - but not only in the sense of feeling and looking youthful - but our attitudes, our decisions and those we choose to surround ourselves with have an impact on how we age.
A quote from Benjamin Button that resonates … and I truly hope it impacts you as well ::
“I hope you feel things you never felt before.
I hope you meet people with a different point of view.
I hope you live a life you’re proud of.
And if you find that you’re not…
I hope you have the strength to start all over again.”
So, what are some techniques that may help fuel some much deserved lightness in life?
Rediscovering Purpose
Our purpose will evolve throughout life. Welcome these times with openness to fully explore what will light you up in this phase.
Reflect what truly matters to you and get clear on your values.
…and once all that is done, make decisions that support your new focus, your value system – pushing you toward your redefined purpose, every day.
Life is a marathon, so feel good about taking baby steps of progress, one day you’ll realize how major all those itty bitty steps were.
Optimizing Mindset
There are so many ways to boost our mindset, but one of the simplest is to appreciate all that we are grateful for.
Regularly reflect and feel fortunate for the humans, the moments, the achievements that have helped get us to today.
Celebrating Wins
(small and big!!!)
It is so important we embrace failure and/or heaviness life may bring us. Life hiccups bubble up experience we learn from.
Even throughout these periods, there are wins.
Assess your life journey - be proud of where you are … even if you envision better.
Find those wins, big or small - absorb them and then allow them to fuel you to build upon!!
Lightness does not happen in solitude … let’s live, together!!!
