Are you aware :: what our first instinct ever to have evolved was?
FEAR
…& this remains our top emotion of today.
Why is that?
Our brains are built for our ancestors, think :: threat, starvation vs. today - we’re no longer living in that environment yet our instinct of fear bubbles up to protect us assuming we are.
Good news, our brains are highly trainable!
Nerd tip :: we no longer believe our brains stop changing at the age of 25, we now know (through neuroscience studies of neuroplasticity), the brain changes throughout life - a beautiful organ of experience.
So, what calms that fear, our fight or flight instinct deeply embedded in all of us?
Shake it off.
Stick with me :: sure, seems a little silly - you’ll catch animals doing it all the time + Taylor Swift sings about it … but in all seriousness, doing this act literally resets our nervous system forcing a sense of calm.
Obviously we won’t always be in the best environment to break out in shakes, so following are a couple more ways that will help crush fear and begin using it to build strength.
Consistency.
Be consistent with whatever you are working toward. Give yourself the grace in knowing it is okay if today’s consistent is good - it will build into great.
Keep your focus on consistency and you’ll notice it will calm fear and carve a path of progress!
Authenticity.
Be you … but don’t just ‘be you’ - be confident in who you are, and take moments throughout the day to absorb that feeling of self love.
If it feels weird initially, work at it - your brain will eventually rewire itself if you are consistent allowing you to feel better about who you are.
That confidence, that energy will sprinkle out to others - impacting and building your relationships.
Reframing how we address fear, our struggles pushes us into uncomfortable zones - but, when we work in it and at it … that discomfort becomes our new comfort.
This cycle is never-ending, but our brains, our bodies are so adaptable; this process builds so much strength and we feel + live better because of it!
